The Voices in the Desert return to Rome to “talk” about war and terrorism

Voices in the Desert returns to the Capital, Friday 19 April, from 6pm, at the Moby Dick – Cultural Hub Library, in via Edgardo Ferrati 3a. This time the civil theater collective starts from a piece taken from Commentaries on the Society of the Performing Arts written by Guy Debord in 1988.
The inspiration is a text by Guy Debord from 1988
«This perfect democracy creates its own irreconcilable enemy, terrorism. In fact, she wants to be judged on the basis of her enemies rather than on the basis of her results – she wrote Debord -. The history of terrorism is written by the State; therefore it is educational. Naturally, spectator populations cannot know everything about terrorism, but they can always know enough to be convinced that, with respect to terrorism, everything else must seem quite acceptable to them, and in any case more rational and democratic.”
War and terrorism according to Voices in the Desert
This time, after the recent foreign news events, Voices in the Desert will present a performance that finds its fulcrum in the theme of war and terrorism. And, as always happens, the “separate collection of memory” – as they define it Voices – will be shown in a “theatrical rave” that will unfold through songs from the past, remote and recent, to show how certain social themes prevail over any temporal space while always remaining (unfortunately) current. And, as always happens, the names of the Voices they will only be announced on the day of the event. Because, as he explains Marco Melloni“historical” Voice in the Desert, «we are a collective, so we never give individual names even though we have had important participations. Naming names means taking away importance from others or from the project: all those who participate recognize themselves as “Voices in the Desert”. We don’t call people to have a catchy name. Then maybe the public will find it but it’s something we’ve never done.”
Voci nel Deserto boasts a long past of “theatrical militancy” in the civil sphere built on an archive that houses 700 different fragments which, when current events require it, are staged with a thematic show accompanied by video and music.
