Treviso, interrupts breast cancer treatment to give birth to her child: Azzurra Carnelos dies at 33

She died at the age of 33 from cancer, after giving birth to a son, for whom she had suspended treatment for months. It’s the story of Azzurra Carnelosof Oderzo, a municipality in the province of Treviso, in Veneto, told today by Gazzettino.

The woman was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2019. In a dream, she herself said, her grandmother, also a victim of cancer, had advised her not to miss her check-ups. So Carnelos discovered that malignant nodule and underwent the treatments indicated by the doctors, recovering from that first neoplasm. In February 2023 she announced, together with her partner Francesco, whom she met in 2013 during her studies in Banking Economics and Finance, that she had become pregnant.

In July, however, during pregnancy checks, the doctors announced that the tumor had returned. Carnelos decided to continue the pregnancy without treatment. Her baby, Antonio, was delivered at 32 weeks.

Only after the birth did Azzurra Carnelos resume cancer therapy, but at that point the treatments were insufficient compared to the aggressiveness of the tumor. The woman died at 33, her son is now 8 months old.
