Members of the House of Representatives flocked this morning to the new Parliament headquarters in the New Administrative Capital.
The constitutional oath-taking session begins with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Counselor Dr. Hanafi Gebali, reading the decision of the National Elections Authority regarding President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s victory in a new term. Then the President delivers the constitutional oath, followed by a speech in which he talks about the features of the coming period.
According to a parliamentary source, after the end of the constitutional swearing-in session, President Sisi will visit People’s Square to raise the Egyptian flag, followed by a visit to the memorial in the Administrative Capital.
The law regulated the controls for holding the session for taking the constitutional oath of the elected president before the House of Representatives, as Article 109 of the House of Representatives Internal Regulations Law stipulates: “After announcing the result of the presidential elections, the House will hold a special session, in which the President of the Republic will take the oath before Parliament.”
Article 144 of the Constitution also stipulates: “It is required that the President of the Republic, before assuming the duties of his office, take the following oath before the House of Representatives: “I swear by Almighty God that I will faithfully preserve the republican system, that I will respect the Constitution and the law, and that I will fully look after the interests of the people. And to preserve the independence of the nation and the unity and integrity of its lands.”
