The US government shot down this Saturday the Chinese “spy balloon” that has flown over the national territory in recent days, according to official sources cited by US media.
The balloon was shot down, after the approval of President Joe Biden, when the device reached the ocean. In fact, local media point out, the remains of the device have fallen into the sea and are being collected by the US authorities.
Several witnesses cited by the media say they have seen how the balloon was shot down. According to the testimony provided to CNN by a local photographer who saw what happened, several planes flew over the area and “a missile or similar device” hit the globe.
The Pentagon announced this past Thursday that it was following the movements of a Chinese “spy balloon” that was flying over the state of Montana (northeast USA), where one of the three existing nuclear missile silo fields on US soil is located.
Initially, the Pentagon leadership recommended that no action be taken against the device for security reasons, since debris could fall on the population. But, once the apparatus has reached the sea, The United States has finally decided to shoot it down.
The presence of that “spy balloon” Chinese in US airspace has triggered a diplomatic crisis between Washington and Beijing and has led to the suspension of the trip that Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, planned to make to China.
For its part, China admitted this Friday that the globe belongs to it, although it assured that “It is a civil airship used for research purposes, mainly meteorological.”
