One video call follows the next, in between the cell phone flashes because colleagues, friends and family send messages. Many people feel stressed by digital media – both professionally and privately. What helps against that?
WWe’re afraid of missing out on something, which is why we dig through a flood of information on the internet every day. We sometimes see cruel, inhumane content and have to learn to deal with it. We want to stay in touch with others and are therefore always available – for friends and colleagues. We often work for hours after work by commenting on Teams posts or writing emails. “Digital worlds are a blessing and a curse at the same time,” says Sebastian Mauritz, resilience trainer and head of the Resilience Academy Göttingen. He has been dealing with the topic for many years and knows that digital media can trigger or increase stress.
Almost one in three employees suffers from digital stress. This is the result of a study funded by the Federal Ministry of Research. Since the Corona pandemic, the transition between the professional and private worlds has become fluid. Employees can be reached long after work hours, answer private messages from friends and family during working hours and emails from colleagues and superiors after work.
