Abdel Wahab Khader, spokesman for the Ministry of Labor, spoke about the details of the National Wages Council’s decision to raise the minimum wage for workers in the private sector to six thousand pounds instead of 3,500 pounds.
He said during a phone call with the “Sabah El Balad” program on “Sada El Balad” channel, today, Monday, that the decision comes in line with the state’s directions and the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi for more support, protection, and care, especially for workers.
He added that the decision also comes in light of the many challenges facing the world of work globally, explaining that the International Labor Organization of the United Nations has alarming numbers regarding the world of work, specifically in terms of wages.
He pointed out that there has been a rapid progression in wages over the course of five years, which confirms the state’s keenness to keep pace with changes and increases in prices.
He noted that the decision is binding on all employers, explaining that the labor law includes penalties for those who do not comply, calling on every worker who does not implement the decision to file a complaint with his labor directorate.
He stated that there are procedures to implement raising the minimum wage, which is the issuance of a decision by the Ministry of Planning, followed by the Ministry of Labor issuing a periodic letter based on the Labor Law and distributing it to the labor directorates for follow-up and implementation.
