Xóchitl Gálvez will remove the Army from the streets

Juarez City.- The presidential candidate for the PAN–PRI–PRD coalition, Xóchitl Gálvez, assured that she will withdraw the army from patrolling and public security tasks in the streets of the country, if she wins the elections for the Presidency of the Republic.

“The army has to leave in 2028, that is foreseen in the transition of the National Guard Law. The Constitution clearly says how the army should participate: in an extraordinary and temporary way, we must respect the Constitution and train police officers, we have not trained police officers,” he said in an interview with El Diario.

He said that during his government, the army will operate only in intelligence areas and, instead, strengthen the police in the states. “In the first stage you cannot remove it (from the army), but there is a deadline of 2028. What do we have to do that this government did not do: strengthen the police,” the candidate insisted.

‘Army figure is worn’

He said that the figure of the army is worn out, after carrying out security patrols since the six-year term of Felipe Calderón, when the “war against drug trafficking” was declared.

“There have to be police officers that work and it hasn’t been done. They tried to do with Calderón, with Peña and the president arrived and it was undone, that is why I do not intend to remove the National Guard either, but rather to strengthen it and the army does have important intelligence work to do to dismantle criminal gangs, that is its greater capacity. What solution does the army patrol provide, none, because the army is not doing investigative work, I think what we are not doing is dismantling criminal gangs,” he said.

‘We are going to win Chihuahua’

On the other hand, Gálvez considered that the opposition coalition will win Chihuahua on June 2.

“I am sure that we are going to win Chihuahua. The president abandoned Chihuahua to his fate, in terms of security, in terms of health, in terms of migration. He abandons Chihuahua, including the mayor by not giving him resources to care for migrants. “People see this abandonment of the president,” she said.

He even commented that he had statistics that show that he would turn the tables on Morena on election day, contrary to the figures observed in national surveys.

“The polls themselves say that there is a repentant vote for Morena here. We could say that 40 percent in the state and there is a switch vote that is making the decision, that vote has not yet been decided, 20 percent,” she said.

Gálvez estimated that, above all, the last week before election day, the electorate will decide on the PAN–PRI–PRD alternative.

“I think the problem is that people are not saying who they are going to vote for, but there is a lot of anger in the country,” he said, “people know that it is insecure, that there are no medicines, people know that there has been corruption.” excessive and people make decisions in the last week already for the election, many people have not decided. We have to see if that anger is expressed at the polls. With 62 percent of the register, we won,” she noted.

Visit the border

The candidate for the opposition collation visited this border on a campaign tour yesterday, after having started her pre-campaign here in November of last year. In her first event, she participated in a meeting with at least 500 workers from the maquiladora sector and then had a rally at the University Gymnasium, attended by hundreds of supporters. Today she will be in the city of Camargo to lead massive events with militants from the region.

“In Chihuahua there is a very clear part that leans towards PANism, I feel that in Juárez people are beginning to raise their spirits. Juárez does vote, it does go out to participate, I feel that in Juárez (the election) is going to be closer than it was in 2021 due to the abandonment of the government in Juárez. There is no water, insecurity grows every day and lack of investment,” he explained.

Gálvez considered that, during López Obrador’s mandate, Morena lost its opportunity to show that it represented an option to govern that was different from previous regimes.

“People tell me that they are very angry with corruption because they expected something different. They promised to sweep corruption from the top down, but when they arrived and saw the budget, the only thing they have swept away is money,” she noted.

Question the mayor

He even questioned the mayor, Cruz Pérez Cuéllar, by ensuring that he is the central figure in corruption issues in the city, despite the fact that in the two events he held in the city yesterday he offered to be his ally.

“It was his opportunity and what he does: buy a little house, a ‘truck’, steal money with school supplies. Why wouldn’t he be a good mayor. “People tell us they are very angry with the mayor’s corruption,” he said.

“What does Juárez need? Love, safety and pavement and we can do that. Three border crossings to improve foreign trade can help a lot and bring order to migration. A lot of migration comes here as a result of human trafficking. Many people are brought from Guatemala by people who use them as merchandise and there I am going to crack down on these gangs of criminals who traffic people,” he said.
