Aiman ​​emphasized that he would not reveal his sources regarding the neutrality of the National Police

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Aiman ​​Witjaksono, as a journalist, explained that he had the right to refuse to mention his source, who said there were indications that there was no neutrality within the National Police in the 2024 Election. He also did not reveal this source when asked for information by investigators at the police.

According to him, as an Indonesian citizen he also has the right to express opinions and remind the government. Especially regarding the neutrality of state officials in the 2024 elections.

“I still adhere to my commitment to never reveal the identities of my sources, at any risk. I believe they are good people who maintain their credibility, so I am obliged to protect their identities, even though there are risks to me,” said Aiman ​​in Media Ganjar-Mahfud National Winning Team (TPN) Center, Jakarta, Tuesday (30/1/2024).

TPN Ganjar-Mahfud Legal Deputy, Todung Mulya Lubis also highlighted the police’s attitude when asking Aiman ​​for information. According to him, the police examined Aiman ​​like a terrorist.

Because his smartphone, social media accounts and personal email were confiscated. Todung believes that the police’s treatment has exceeded the limits of reasonableness.

“We object to obtaining evidence in an inappropriate way like this because once again I say that I am not a suspect. Brother Aiman ​​was a journalist when he held a press conference here, I was also present, Brother Aiman ​​is not a terrorist. He is not a narcotics criminal and war criminals,” said Todung.

“This is all a violation of procedural law and we will take legal steps in accordance with applicable regulations, to defend Brother Aiman’s legal interests,” he continued to emphasize.

There have been at least six reports to Polda Metro Jaya from a number of community groups against Aiman ​​Witjaksono. The report concerns Aiman’s statement in November 2023 regarding the National Police not being neutral in the 2024 elections.

Even in his statement, Aiman ​​openly stated that there were members of the police in a number of areas who were forced by the commanders to participate in winning the 2nd presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming.

Based on this statement, Aiman ​​was reported under suspicion of Article 28 (2) in conjunction with Article 45 paragraph (2) of Law 19/2016 concerning Information and Electronic Transactions (ITE) regarding hate speech. Also Article 14, or Article 15 of Law 1/1946 concerning Criminal Law Regulations regarding the spread of false news.
