Avoid Practical Politics in Mosques

JawaPos.com – The Coordinating Minister for Politics, Law and Security (Menkopolhukam) Mahfud MD reminded all parties, especially religious leaders and leaders and extended families of Islamic boarding schools to avoid practical politics in mosques in the 2024 election.

“As much as possible, avoid practical politics in mosques so as not to cause internal conflict,” said Mahfud, as quoted from a written statement received in Jakarta, Thursday (23/2).

He then emphasized that every community has the right to determine their political choices, in accordance with their respective political awareness without the need to be directed through meetings at the mosque.

“Whoever you choose is welcome, but don’t fight in the mosque so that we don’t get caught up in unwanted fights,” he said.

He conveyed this while visiting the Al Kautsar Al Akbar Islamic Boarding School under the care of Kiai Ali Akbar Marbun in Medan, North Sumatra, Thursday (23/2).

Apart from that, Mahfud also asked religious leaders and Islamic boarding school leaders to play a role in securing the holding of the 2024 elections from various conflicts that could potentially arise in society, such as by inviting them to remain calm.

“Next year there will be elections, please cool down the community, make all students and ummah aware so that they use their political rights properly. This country must be maintained and the way to protect it is elections as a means of conveying political aspirations must be properly maintained,” said Mahfud.

Furthermore, he conveyed that there are two types of politics, namely inspirational politics and practical politics.

“When I meet NU and Muhammadiyah figures, I often say that there are two politics. First, inspiration in the form of leadership ideas and organizing the country well,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mahfud said that practical politics means directing someone to choose a certain figure as a leader.
