Because of NU’s signature greetings borrowed by politicians, Gus Dur made a new one

NYANTRI–Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) has always been a magnet for politicians and political parties ahead of democratic parties such as presidential and vice-presidential elections, including legislative candidates from DPRD to DPR RI. There was no wind, they suddenly paid attention to this organization by visiting NU nodes.
They come to NU events and behave like NU members. A small example is saying the typical NU greeting. This phenomenon reminds me of Gus Dur’s joke about the NU-style greeting borrowed by politicians.
One day, the former general chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama Board (PBNU) KH. Abdurrahman Wahid or Gus Dur has a story about the closing greetings of the NU kiai. According to him, NU’s closing greeting was “wabillahi taufik wal hidayah”.

Then the late Kiai Ahmad Abdul Hamid, Kendal, Central Java, looked for a replacement for this greeting. And a new NU closing greeting was created, namely “Wallahul muwafiq ila aqwaamiththoriq”.
“Now NU people are using it everywhere,” said Gus Dur.
And Gus Dur admitted that he did not want the closing greeting to be the same, so he created his own closing greeting on one occasion namely “Wabillahi taufik, warridho wal inayah wassalamu’alaikum warahmatullah wabarakatuh”.
