JawaPos.com – Director of Indonesian Political Indicators (IPI) Burhanuddin Muhtadi assesses that so far the steps taken by the National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit in repairing the image of the National Police which was destroyed due to the Sambo case have been good.
“Several steps have seen results, although they have not recovered to normal,” said Burhanudin, when presenting the results of a virtual survey of indicators, Sunday (26/3).
However, Burhanuddin also said that trust in the police had not fully recovered.
“It’s only 10 percent (increase). So trust in the police has not fully recovered compared to November 2021, at that time 80 percent of the public had trust in the police. And the Sambo case has made trust drop to 50 percent,” he explained.
However, according to a survey, the increase in public trust in the police was triggered by the death sentence for Ferdy Sambo.
In the Indicator survey, increased trust in law enforcement occurs within the police. In November 2022 it was 58.2 percent, December (62.9 percent), and February 2023 (68.4 percent).
This increase in trust was followed by a significant decrease in the level of distrust of the police in law enforcement. It was recorded that in November 2022 it was 40.2 percent, in December 2022 (35.7 percent), and in February 2023 it fell to 30.3 percent.
In terms of trends, the level of trust in eradicating corruption, trust in the police has also increased to 64.4 percent.
The level of distrust in the eradication of corruption by the Police has also continued to experience a significant decline. In November 2022 it will be 43.3 percent, December 2022 (37.8 percent), and February 2023 (33.5 percent).
