Community Leader of South Sulawesi Bela Ferdy Sambo

JawaPos.com – South Sulawesi (Sulsel) Community Figure Anar Salahuddin Sampetoding assessed that the death sentence against the former Head of the Professional and Security Division (Kadiv Propam) of the National Police, Ferdy Sambo was excessive. According to him, the death penalty against Ferdy Sambo only accommodated the wishes of the people.

“We consider the death sentence for Ferdy Sambo to be excessive, because it seems that the sentence given was only to fulfill the wishes of certain people, and not on the basis of substantive justice by considering the aspects that emerged at trial,” said Anar in a press conference in Jakarta, Wednesday ( 15/3).

It is believed that Ferdy Sambo, who was also born in Barru, South Sulawesi, only wanted to defend the personal dignity of his family, in the South Sulawesi language, namely Siri’ Na Pacce.

“The belief that consists of Toraja, Makassar and Bugis ethnicities and anyone of course can take any action to defend the dignity of their families and individuals, which must be done alone without being represented,” said Anar.

He also considered that the death sentence against Ferdy Sambo did not leave a bit of room for justice during the trial process. In fact, it is considered that Ferdy has already apologized for his actions in the murder of Brigadier Nofriansyah Yosua Hutabarat alias Brigadier J.

“Already admitted he was wrong, apologized many times and is ready to take responsibility, even being polite. Are there no legal considerations or leniency for an attitude like this that requires the death penalty?” said Anar.

Therefore, Anar stated that the extended family of South Sulawesi, especially the Toraja, Makassar and Bugis ethnic groups, believed that justice would be obtained for Ferdy Sambo through an appeal which had been filed.

“On the basis of justice and humanity, the death penalty is something that is very excessive and therefore deserves to be rejected. Hopefully the judges at the court of appeal will consider all of these aspects, so that justice can actually be obtained by our brother Ferdy Sambo,” hoped Anar.

Ferdy Sambo, who was the mastermind behind the murder of Brigadier Yosua Hutabarat, was sentenced to death. Meanwhile his wife, Putri Candrawathi was sentenced to 20 years in prison, while Strong Maruf and Ricky Rizal Wibowo were sentenced to 15 years and 13 years respectively.

Meanwhile, Richard Eliezer, who was initially charged with 12 years in prison, was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months by a panel of judges at the South Jakarta District Court.
