Chandigarh,, Holi is being celebrated with great pomp across the country on Monday. Meanwhile, devotees gathered at Gurudwara Keshgarh Sahib in Punjab’s Anandpur Sahib for prayers for ‘Hola Mohalla Utsav’ coinciding with the festival of Holi.
Dressed in traditional dress, carrying weapons and riding on horses, hundreds of Nihang Sikhs performed Gatka martial art, which was a major attraction for tourists. The three-day long festival coincides with the Hindu festival of Holi.
The town and pilgrimage site of Anandpur Sahib, located about 85 km from Chandigarh, is the place where Guru Gobind Singh baptized five people in 1699 and founded the Khalsa Panth, which is the modern Sikh religion. Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit encouraged people to celebrate Holi. The Governor said in his message, “The festival of Holi marks the arrival of spring and the victory of good over evil. As the onset of spring fills the atmosphere with mysterious charm and fragrance. This festival of colors will cross all social barriers and strengthen social harmony, bringing happiness, joy, hope and happiness in the lives of the people of Punjab and Chandigarh.” Governor Purohit appealed to the people to celebrate the festival of Holi with true values of harmony, goodwill and brotherhood.
