Din Syamsuddin to Muhammadiyah Residents: Don’t Give Justifications for Usurping People’s Rights

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA— Former Chairman of the Muhammadiyah Central Management (PP) Din Syamsuddin reminded all members of the organization never to provide justification for usurpers of people’s rights in the 2024 Election.

“Like appearing to usurp the people’s rights in the 2024 elections, Muhammadiyah will not remain silent, also regarding the evil of displaying despotism, non-ethics and non-statesmanship,” said Din Syamsuddin in a statement received in Jakarta, Sunday.

According to him, this attitude is a form of Muhammadiyah’s practice in upholding the truth and preventing evil or what is known as amar makruf nahyi munkar.

This practice must be carried out, he said, considering that it is the mandate of the Yogyakarta Muhammadiyah Congress in 2010 and the mandate of the Al Quran Surah Ali Imran Verse 104 as is often read in Muhammadiyah forums.

وَلْتَكُنْ مِنْكُمْ أُمَّةٌ يَدْعُونَ إِلَى الْخَيْرِ وَيَأْمُرُ ونَ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ وَيَنْهَوْنَ عَنِ الْمُنْكَرِ ۚ وَأُولَٰئِكَ هُ مُ الْمُفْلِحُونَ

“And let there be among you a group of people who call to virtue, enjoin what is good and forbid what is evil; they are the lucky ones.”

Din Syamsuddin does not want the religious organization he once led to be permissive and legitimative, abandoning truth and honesty. Because if so, it will end up being a major disaster for the life of the nation and state.

“Don’t be because someone comes with material promises or a promise of a high position, our tongues become numb, our legs become stiff. “But this is precisely the time for structural evil to be faced with amar makruf-nahyi evil which is structural as well,” he said in the Tabligh Akbar with the theme “Post-Election Muhammadiyah Da’wah Strategy” which was also attended by the Tangerang Muhammadiyah Regional Leadership congregation.

It is from this condition, according to Din, that requires Muhammadiyah to straighten out the direction of the nation’s movement from evil which even runs structurally.

Because in Muhammadiyah’s eyes, he said, structural wrongs are deviations and abuses of the basic values ​​of the nation and state that had been agreed upon by the founders, including a number of Muhammadiyah figures.
