Doctor of Turkish origin was awarded the Order of Merit in Germany

Doctor Cihan Çelik of Turkish origin was deemed worthy of the award in Darmstadt, known as the “city of science” in Germany. Çelik, who works as an Internal Medicine Specialist at Darmstadt City Hospital, received the German Order of Merit, the highest honor award given by the German government for services rendered for the public good. At the award ceremony held at the Prime Ministry building in Wiesbaden, the capital of the state of Hesse, Çelik was given the medal by the Minister of Health of the State of Hesse, Diana Stolz.

“Giving this award to Çelik is of great importance to me.”

Speaking at the award ceremony, Stolz said, “Due to his successful work during the pandemic period, Dr. I congratulate Çelik and his team. It is very important that the award be given to someone from the state of Hesse. It is also of particular importance for us, as the Ministry of Health, that it be given to someone from the health sector. More importantly, we presented this award to Dr. on behalf of our President. “Giving it to Çelik is of great importance to me,” he said.

In his thank you speech after receiving the award, Çelik said, “I am very happy that we were rewarded for the work we did in Germany. I’m so proud. I receive this award on behalf of the Turkish community in Germany. We fought hard with my team during the pandemic period. And we have achieved successful work. I would like to thank our President and all the officials who saw our success and rewarded us. “I thank my family for their support during this process,” he said.

“I think we did a very good job”

In his statement to Çelik Türkçe, he said, “Of course, it is a very proud award. “As doctors and as people working in hospitals during the pandemic, it is of course a matter of pride,” he said.

Emphasizing that it is very important for his family to attach importance to school and science as a person of Turkish origin who grew up in Germany, Çelik said, “We were able to follow this path because it was extremely important for our family to go to school and earn a master’s degree. “I am grateful to my family for that,” he said.

Referring to the work carried out during the pandemic period, Çelik said, “During the pandemic, doctors and people working in the hospital bonded with each other. We have all become a force to manage this pandemic process in the best way possible. I think we did a very good job in this process. After all, the pandemic process went as well as possible in Germany, in our hospital. Of course, we lost many people. But we don’t forget this. There will be another pandemic. We are sure of this. “We want to prepare ourselves,” he said.

Çelik said, “You need to be very grateful when your work is seen. We are in this situation too. We do our job, but we don’t do it to win awards. Medicine and being a doctor is an important job. We do this job because we love it. “But it makes us happy and proud that people see what we do,” he said.

“It is very important for Turkish society”

Dr. Frankfurt Consul General Erdem Tunçer, who did not leave Çelik alone, stated that he was very happy and said, “I came here upon invitation. It is very valuable for the Turkish community in Germany that a person of Turkish origin has been deemed worthy of such an important award. We followed Doctor Çelik’s work both during the pandemic period and during the earthquake that occurred in our country on February 6. He worked very devotedly. It is a concrete proof of what people of Turkish origin in Germany can achieve. The fact that a doctor of Turkish origin was deemed worthy of such an award is also proof that the integration was successful. Dr. “I congratulate Cihan Çelik, his family and everyone who contributed to his upbringing,” he said.

Çelik’s father, Doğan Çelik, stated that he was proud of his son and said, “It makes us happy that such a young man came here among the Turkish society. His life was always full of success. As the child of a working class family, it is a source of pride for us that he achieved this success. “I am proud as a Turk,” he said.

Cihan Çelik was previously awarded the Darmstadt Science City Silver Medal of Merit by Darmstadt Mayor Jochen Partsch for his contributions to information and education during the pandemic and to promoting public interest and the acceptance of science among the public.
