Engineer Aleksandrov explained how the Russian Federation and the United States can compete in space

Russian cosmonautics still lacks a meaningful strategy, says spacecraft design engineer and cosmonautics historian Sergei Alexandrov.
In an interview with aif.ru, Aleksandrov said that Russia, from his point of view, is recklessly trying to keep up with the United States in creating commercial satellite constellations by implementing the Sphere project, a similarity to Elon Musk’s Starlink.
“The problem is that Starlink was not originally a commercial project. It appeared after it became clear during the Arab Spring that any state can block the Internet on its territory, and without the Internet you cannot make a color revolution. In order to bypass such blocking, the Americans made Starlink. So this is not about business and not about freedom of information, this is about a new type of war,” added Alexandrov.
According to the expert, Russia should rather focus its efforts on developing super-heavy carriers, as well as reusable carriers, in which it still lags behind the United States.
“Without such systems, space exploration is impossible. To land at least two people on the Moon, at least 120 tons of cargo must be put into orbit. What if we build an entire colony there? There’s no way to do this without powerful space trucks,” the specialist believes.
