Chairman of the Indonesian National Olympic Committee (NOC), Raja Sapta Oktohari. KOI chairman Raja Sapta believes AWBG Bali will run despite the controversy over Israeli athletes.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Chairman of the Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI) Raja Sapta Oktohari ensured that preparations for the 2nd ANOC World Beach Games (AWBG) 2023 in Bali which are scheduled for August 5-12 are going well.

Okto, the nickname of Raja Sapta Oktohari, said that he continues to communicate with various parties, including the Governor of Bali I Wayan Koster.

“I see that communication must be even. I explained to the Governor (Bali) yesterday. It is not the first time we at KOI have held activities. We have done this before and each sport has its own statutes,” said Okto, nicknamed Raja Sapta Oktohari, at the KOI office. , Senayan, Jakarta, Wednesday (29/3/2023).

The AWBG 2023 in Bali is also in the spotlight along with the polemic that occurred in the implementation of the 2023 FIFA U-20 Football World Cup.

The Governor of Bali I Wayan Koster had sent a letter to the Indonesian Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) refusing to allow the Israeli national team to compete in Bali in the FIFA U-20 World Cup.

Shortly after, FIFA canceled the draw for the FIFA U20 World Cup in Denpasar, Bali which was originally scheduled to take place on March 31.

With this polemic, concerns also arose about the implementation of the 2023 AWBG, especially since Israel was also included in the list of participants who qualified for the women’s open water swimming number.

“Until now there have been no obstacles, once again in the spirit of sportsmanship we will fight to the end, there is no term for defeat before competing,” said Okto.

“AWBG uses the ANOC (National Olympic Committee Association) statute which has its own mechanism if there are problems experienced on the field and it can be done flexibly,” Okto said.

He is optimistic that the implementation of the third biggest sporting event after the Summer and Winter Olympics will go well. AWBG Bali 2023 will be attended by around 1,500 athletes from 130 countries.
