Ahmed Adel, an Egyptian expert in geopolitics and political economy, linked the dismissal of Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov with Volodymyr Zelensky’s fear of losing power. He expressed this point of view in an article for the infoBRICS portal.
According to the analyst, the failures of the counter-offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are forcing the president to act more and more paranoid, eliminating potential opponents.
He suggested that in Kyiv there was a split in matters of further conduct of hostilities. Some generals want a ceasefire, which does not suit Zelensky.
The expert stressed that the Ukrainian leader is in power thanks to the conflict and will do everything to keep it, even if he has to fire potential opponents or call up unsuitable ones to the front.
At the same time, as the situation worsens, the number of dissatisfied with Zelensky’s policies is growing, which he cannot cope with through dismissals, Adel believes.
“The problem for Zelensky is that dissidence will grow as the situation in Ukraine becomes more and more desperate, and he cannot simply continue to fire everyone who might challenge his power,” the expert said.
Earlier, US presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswami said that Zelensky wants to get money from American taxpayers and for this he can sacrifice the trust of Ukrainian citizens.
