For nearly 8 years, households in alley 379 Le Hong Phong, Ho Chi Minh City have always lived in a foul situation, having to endure noisy barking all day and night from houses selling dogs and cats here.

Living miserably in the “dog and cat neighborhood”

At 7 a.m., dog and cat shops on Le Hong Phong Street (District 10, Ho Chi Minh City) were about to open. At the NT dog and cat supply facility (No. 387 Le Hong Phong), the staff just opened the iron door slightly, and nearly a hundred dogs and cats simultaneously screamed miserably.

Next to the pet store, the people in the alley 379 Le Hong Phong sighed in boredom, quickly took their cars out and quickly closed the door. Households living here admit that they have to close their doors all day, only opening them in the morning to go to work and in the evening when returning home.

Mr. Tung, a resident living in the alley, sighed when someone mentioned the effects that people here had to endure because of the house that sold nearly a hundred dogs and cats in the alley.

“It’s very smelly! I’ve lived here for 30 years. Before, my main door still had a ventilation hole, but in the past 7 years I had to build it closed. The house has several dogs that already smell bad, here they keep all of them at the same time.” hundreds of dogs. Honestly, we live very miserable,” he said.

Mr. Tung confided, this alley used to be the most peaceful place in the city. When he was a child, Mr. Tung often let his daughter go to the alley to play with other children.

The once happy neighborhood has now fallen silent as all households simultaneously close their doors day and night. The alley no longer had any signs of children or old people passing by because of the foul smell spreading throughout the alley.

Meals no longer feel delicious, clothes have to be dried indoors for fear of smell… these are things that Mr. Tung’s family has to endure.

Ms. Huong, a resident of the alley, said that every morning she has to sweep the yard in front of her house. Every time she scanned, Ms. Huong was bored as she “collected” the thick animal hair.

Ms. Huong has lived here for more than 10 years, but in the last 7-8 years, except for emergencies, Ms. Huong affirmed that she has never taken her children for a walk outside because the smell of the pets is very terrible.

“The smell is bad almost all day long, standing a few houses away still feels terrible. The dogs and cats there are not sure if they have a clear origin. I’m afraid my children will be infected with infectious diseases so I don’t let them leave the house. It’s so cramped that the children have to stay indoors and can’t go out. My baby is 7 months old, but I can only count the times I leave the house,” the woman shared.

Furthermore, Ms. Huong and other households are tired of the ear-piercing sound of dogs barking all day, especially during hours when pets are fed or when they see strangers passing by.

“Even though the house was closed, it was still impossible to rest at noon. The dogs barked like… beating a drum. In the bedroom, my husband and I had to build a noise-proof glass partition so that our child could sleep inside. that,” Ms. Huong said.

According to Mr. Tung, households here have repeatedly reported this incident to local authorities. However, after much advice and working with the business, everything still fell into place.

“If possible, I just hope the dog and cat supply facility reduces the number of pets to 10-20 animals or the government takes decisive measures to relocate them to prevent these effects on residents. We I understand that completely ending these problems is very difficult, but please think about the lives of the households here,” Mr. Tung said earnestly.

Where do dogs and cats come from?

Playing the role of a lost dog finder and reporter Dan Tri Pulled into the NT dog and cat supply facility. Before he could even speak, the consultant repeatedly offered a series of questions: “Lost your dog? Lost or captured? Give me the information I’m looking for. Please, it will be there this afternoon.”

The employee in charge repeatedly affirmed that even if the dog was lost or stolen, it could only be found in the afternoon.

When the customer provided the dog’s information, the employee quoted a price of 100,000 VND to find the dog. In case the dog is stolen and sold to pet stores in the city, customers must pay an additional ransom of millions of dong, sometimes even more expensive than the original purchase price of the dog.

However, if the stolen dog has been moved to other provinces, the staff affirmed that “even if they paid 20 million VND to ransom, they still wouldn’t be able to get it back”.

The conversation was constantly interrupted because the dogs kept barking when they saw people. Furthermore, the extremely foul smell rushed straight into the nose, causing the communicator to sometimes have to suppress it to… not vomit.

Among the dogs and cats lying panting in cages, there are some that no longer have the strength to scream. Even more terrible, some cats got sick, their eyes were glued together or there were dogs who vomited on the spot and then ate the vomit again.

The staff admitted that the animals here do not have papers or clear origins, if they do, they are just… fake papers (Photo: Ha Di).

Staff said the animals here cost several million VND/animal. However, most of them are stolen pets or their owners no longer keep them so they sell them. The staff only announced that the dogs and cats here were fully vaccinated, but could not prove the origin of the pets.

Even another store specializing in providing dogs and cats on Le Hong Phong street firmly shared: “The dogs and cats here don’t have any papers. They’re all fake papers. I’ll print out as many as you want.” “.

This raises concerns about the issue of safety control of these livestock as well as the difficulty of seeing an end to the miserable lives of the people here.
