Palestinian groups Hamas and Islamic Jihad reminded again of the four conditions for the success of indirect negotiations with Israel. These conditions reportedly included the return of displaced people to their homes in the Gaza Strip.
A delegation led by Hamas Political Bureau Chief Ismail Haniye and Islamic Jihad Secretary General Ziyad al-Nakhalah met yesterday in Tehran, the capital of Iran.
In the statement made by Hamas, the following conditions were put forward for indirect negotiations with Israel to be successful:
“A complete cessation of Gaza attacks, the withdrawal of occupation forces, the return of displaced persons and the uninterrupted aid flow.”
The statement stated that Palestinians are in direct conflict with Israel due to raids, attacks in the West Bank and violations in Jerusalem and Masjid al-Aqsa. The use of “all forms of resistance” in conflict zones was discussed.
It was also noted that all plans and projects aiming to change the situation in Gaza against the will of the people were rejected.
