“He laid out the victim’s body parts and lay down next to him.” Maniac Mukhankin writes memoirs | Incidents

In the mid-90s, a series of high-profile murders thundered throughout Russia, behind which he was Vladimir Mukhankin. A maniac from the Rostov region scared the country not only with short breaks between crimes, but also with a desire to outdo Chikatilo. What could have happened to a person’s psyche that he decided to choose such a path?

Killed the cat and buried it in the cemetery

Everyone knows: when couples get divorced, it is often accompanied by scandals and mutual accusations. This is exactly what happened in the life of Vladimir Mukhankin. After divorcing her husband, the mother hated her son and blamed him for all her failures. The little boy suffered from literally everything: you stand wrong, you look wrong, you breathe wrong. Mukhankin became withdrawn, and gradually began to have problems with his studies and bullying from his classmates.

At the age of 12, wanting to take out his anger and resentment, he tore apart a stray cat. He buried what was left of the unfortunate animal in the cemetery. Over time, the boy regretted what he had done. He sometimes came to the makeshift grave and cried bitterly. Later, Mukhankin confessed everything to his mother, but received only indifference in response.

“A difficult childhood and an unloving mother can cause mental disorders in a child. A child, figuratively speaking, with a broken psyche cannot find adequate company. That is, he will choose such mentally unhealthy and inadequate people to join the company. Another point is that when a child lives in constant humiliation from his family and peers, he gradually develops the attitude that such an attitude towards him is the norm. He will look for those around him who will treat him the same way. Very often, when a girl experiences physical violence in the family, she chooses a husband in the future – a tyrant. This is the usual behavior of the victim,” commented aif.ru child psychologist Irina Taranova.

She noted that aggression towards a child from relatives and peers leads to the fact that his anger will find an outlet in breaking laws, cruelty and humiliation of other people. Very often in cases with families of maniacs, it turns out that there were difficult relationships with the child and classmates.

“As for followers, yes, this happens. For people with not very healthy psyches, this can become a scenario for what to do. And this is how followers and imitators appear,” Taranova explained.

At about 12 years old, Mukhankin ran away from home for the first time. The guy liked the feeling of freedom and lack of supervision. After this incident, he regularly began to run away from home. Over time, he gathered a group of peers around him. Together they began to rob passersby – sneaking up from behind and hitting them on the head. Then they took money and valuables. No matter how strange it may sound, a difficult teenager was caught stealing chicken from neighbors in order to once again show off in front of his peers.

Mukhankin’s mother was incredibly happy about this news. And young Mukhankin went to a special school – an analogue of a modern juvenile colony. It was there that he became acquainted with the laws of prison life and made his first tattoos.

And so began the criminal path of the Chikatilo imitator.

Of course, there are no books about criminals in the prison library. But there were periodical printed publications there regularly. The newspapers of the 90s constantly wrote about the atrocities of the maniac Chikatilo. In 1994, Mukhankin found his idol in him.

Finding himself free after serving several sentences for theft and robbery, Mukhankin constantly met with former cellmates in a bar and continued to rob passers-by. He drank away his ill-gotten gains. Surprisingly, he very quickly found a passion for himself, who had an eight-year-old son.

The idea of ​​surpassing Chikatilo did not leave Mukhankin’s mind. He really wanted some prisoner to read about him in the newspaper. Soon he killed a man out of interest.

Late one evening, he stumbled out of the bar, barely dragging his feet. The drunken Mukhankin was not noticed by the driver of the car; the blow was not strong, but the future maniac fell to the ground. The culprit of the accident got scared and disappeared. A random passer-by leaned over Mukhankin to check if he was alive. Suddenly Mukhankin stabbed her with a knife.

This terrible experience pleased the Chikatilo imitator. From now on, he strictly divided: murders are for pleasure, and robberies are just work.

Mukhankin stabbed one of his last victims, dismembered him, and then laid out the body parts on the railway tracks and lay down next to him – he felt unspeakable pleasure from all this.

The result of a series of attacks of 8 murders, which he committed in just 7 weeks, was a logical ending: in December 1996, Vladimir Mukhankin was sentenced to death.

Mukhankin himself wanted exactly this, for his story it was a beautiful ending, but the punishment was replaced with life imprisonment in the Black Dolphin colony. There he is still located.

In 2006, serial killer Vladimir Mukhankin wrote a letter to the Rostov editorial office of AiF, in which he described how he was serving a life sentence. Here are quotes from it, preserving the author’s spelling:

“Vladimir Anatolyevich Mukhankin is writing to you from a life imprisonment colony. I am already 47 years old, I have been in prison for the twelfth year. I am still alive and well, which I wish for all of you. Hehe, the prison preserves well! I don’t climb the wall out of boredom, because I study, study, study. I don’t have enough daylight hours – there is so much passion for learning a variety of things. Well, if you find food, then I will say in the simplicity of my soul that everything is ok! Some people in the Rostov region do not have on their table what they bring me for breakfast, lunch and dinner according to European standards…

I’m not sitting idly by and I’m in no hurry. I am studying the laws and hope that in two or three years I will be free again…

Sincerely, Vladimir A. Mukhankin.”

Fortunately, the serial killer’s hopes were not destined to come true. Now Mukhankin is still in the same colony writing memoirs in which he talks about his crimes. He is either eager for freedom, or begging for the death penalty: it has long been unbearable for him to languish behind bars.

Death is the best way out

Aif.ru asked physiognomist Olga Druzhkova study photographs of Mukhankin.

“He loves freedom very much and cannot stand restrictions, so for him death would be the best way out. Protruding ears indicate his desire for freedom. A high forehead indicates extensive knowledge. Under different circumstances, he could have successfully realized his potential in life. An “m”-shaped hairline speaks of creativity, as well as some unpredictability that may manifest itself in his behavior. It was important for him not just to kill, but to carry out his act with some idea,” said Olga Druzhkova.

According to her, Mukhankin is highly dependent on the opinions of others and the desire to receive their approval. Druzhkova also sees suppressed aggression in his facial features.
