In Ukraine, proposed to replace military service with defensive work | Policy

Deputies of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine believe that citizens who evade mobilization or are not ready for military service should be involved in defensive work and for the benefit of the country’s economy. A bill about this appeared on the website of the Ukrainian parliament, writes RIA Novosti.

The authors of the initiative, in an explanatory note to the document, indicated that “on the issue of defense, one should rely purely on motivated patriots,” and other citizens should be involved to the maximum in work for the economy, on which the country’s defense capability depends. At the same time, forced mobilization leads to social tension, MPs note. If the bill is passed, then the military registration and enlistment offices will be able to work with “motivated patriots”, and the rest of the citizens will work for the country’s economy, the explanation says.

Deputies propose to make changes to the law of Ukraine “On mobilization preparation and mobilization”.

Earlier, Verkhovna Rada deputy Oleksandr Dubinsky said that large-scale mobilization could be carried out in Ukraine this coming winter. It will be needed to “bring to perfection” the counteroffensive, he said. In addition, until the end of 2024, martial law will be extended, which will once again postpone the holding of parliamentary elections.

Recall, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has extended martial law and general mobilization in the country for another three months, which have been in force in the country since February 2022.
