Iran will meet with Portuguese Foreign Minister

The Ambassador of Iran, in Lisbon, hopes to have a meeting with the Portuguese Minister of Foreign Affairs, Paulo Rangel, this Tuesday. The meeting will address the issue of the capture of the Portuguese-flagged ship in the Strait of Hormuz.
Hours before launching the missile and drone attack against Israel, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard captured the cargo ship associated with Israel, in the Persian Gulf, last Saturday.
Carlos da Costa Neves, Portuguese ambassador in Tehran, met last Sunday with Iran’s head of diplomacy, Hossein Amirabdollahian, to obtain clarification on the capture of the ship.
Following the meeting between the two Iranian officials, a source from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, cited by Lusa, indicated that “the Government continues to take all planned and appropriate steps”.
“Given the new context and the sensitivity of the situation, it is advisable to maintain reserve”, added the source, who also mentioned that there is the possibility of worsening diplomatic measures, taking into account the “constant monitoring and evolution” of the situation.
It is recalled that, last Saturday, a container ship, flying the Portuguese flag, was seized by Iran, near the Strait of Hormuz, in the Persian Gulf, with a total of 25 crew members on board.
The vessel had links to the company Zodiac Maritime, which was part of the Zodiac group, with a fleet of more than 180 ships and owned by Israeli billionaire Eyal Ofer.
