Iranian diplomat was received by the Director General of Foreign Policy, who “vehemently” condemned the attack against the State of Israel.
The Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran was called to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs this Tuesday morning.
The Iranian diplomat met not with the minister, but with the Director General of Foreign Policy, who reiterated “vehemently and categorically the condemnation of the recent attack carried out against the State of Israel”, the Government said in a statement from guardianship.
“The Portuguese Government expressed its deep concern about the escalation of the conflict in the region, calling for maximum containment”, it further reads.
At the meeting, the Director General of Foreign Policy also took the opportunity to once again demand the immediate release of the ship MSC Aries, with a Portuguese flag but without national crew, trapped in the Strait of Hormuz since last Saturday.
“The release of the crew was also demanded, which must be treated with dignity while the ship remains imprisoned, as the explanations provided so far are not considered consistent”, added the Executive.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will now await the results of this formal investigation and will assess, “according to this”, whether or not to take additional steps.
