It was as if he had fallen asleep on the shore. An ominous lake in Altai has taken another life

A 23-year-old resident of Tyumen was wanted for more than a month and a half Kirill Malygin. And not a few days ago, sad news came – the body of a young man was found on the shore of Lake Teletskoye. According to the preliminary conclusion of the medical examiner, the guy died from hypothermia.

Why the Tyumen resident went to Altai is a mystery. They say that he was attracted by the mysterious Teletskoye Lake, shrouded in myths and legends, and among pilgrims known as a place of power. It is believed that at the bottom of the lake in icy water the bodies of all drowned people have been preserved practically without decomposition since prehistoric times. According to legend, even Chinese warriors from the Qing Dynasty found eternal peace there.

Chilling water

Few people dare to swim in a pond even in summer. In hot weather, the water on the surface does not warm up above +10 degrees. But the picturesque, mysterious lake, framed by mountains, attracts vacationers with its beauty. There are numerous hotels and camp sites on the coast. Kirill’s body was found next to one of them. In the photo circulating online, it appears as if he was hugging himself in an attempt to keep warm. “We had severe cold in February. Maybe he was walking, fell and lost consciousness. The frost must have grabbed him,” the locals wonder.

The deceased was discovered by a couple from Novokuznetsk. They made a terrible discovery while walking. Kirill was wearing the same clothes in which he was last seen, on February 24, in the village of Artybash, located on the shore of the lake. The guy arrived by taxi from Gorno-Altaisk airport, where he had flown from Tyumen: a black tracksuit, a long black down jacket, a dark gray knitted hat and black sneakers. He was last seen at the shopping stalls. The fair-haired, blue-eyed Kirill is well remembered here.

Judging by his page on the social network, Malygin was not interested in esotericism and mysticism. He was interested in computer games, anime, groups with jokes and memes, one might say, a standard set of hobbies for a guy of that age.

Without friends

What is uncharacteristic is the short list of friends. Nowadays, young people have hundreds of acquaintances in their contacts, and Kirill has 34. And after what happened, none of them left posts on his wall. Words of condolences on the page are written by strangers who learned about the guy’s absurd death from the news.

“The department’s investigators are carrying out the necessary verification activities aimed at establishing all the circumstances of the incident. Based on the results of the inspection, a procedural decision will be made,” the Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Altai Territory reported.

Kirill is not the first

The death at Lake Malygina is far from the most mysterious. The reservoir, like a magnet, pulls people to the bottom. In August 2006, a private Corvette seaplane crashed into the lake. The search for the pilot and two passengers lasted about two weeks. The work of rescuers and searchers was complicated by the large depth of the reservoir and the siltation of the water, as well as the strong current. As a result, the work was stopped.

In January 2009, the Buran snowmobile fell through the ice. The body of one person was found 300 meters from the scene of the incident, the second was never found.

And in July 2011, a small ship was wrecked on the lake. Of the 13 people on board, four died. The boat was searched using the Falcon deep-sea robot.

Regulars of Teletskoye know that the weather in this area is extremely changeable. Before you have time to look back, the sun has already disappeared behind the clouds and it started to rain, and then the sky is clear again. The direction of faith is not constant here either.

It’s written in the family

One of the most notorious disasters was the crash of a private Robinson R66 helicopter on February 12, 2017. There were five people on board. Four of them are missing. The body of one of the passengers, the pilot’s wife, later washed ashore. Among the flight participants is a former Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of the Altai Republic Anatoly Bannykh. This is not his first plane crash.

Eight years before the crash of the Robinson R66, an Mi-8 helicopter crashed at the foot of Mount Chernaya in Altai. Seven people died then, but Bannykh and three others survived.

The former deputy prime minister seemed to have a presentiment of the deadly catastrophe. Due to bad weather, the helicopter pilot decided to abort the flight of the helicopter flying to a recreation center located in the north of Lake Teletskoye. Having landed at the Kokshi cordon, he intended to wait and assess the further situation. Bannykh demanded to stay overnight and continue the flight in the morning. But the helicopter continued its flight.
