Khofifah’s Reason for Affirming His NU-Understanding in Front of Hundreds of Thousands of NU Muslim Cadres

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — General Chairperson of PP Muslimat NU Khofifah Indar Parawansa reiterated his NU-ness in front of hundreds of thousands of Muslimat cadres who attended the 78th Harlah Muslimat NU, at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium, Senayan, Jakarta , Saturday (20/1/2024).

This assertion seemed to be insinuating Cawapres 01 Muhaimin Iskandar and Chairman of the National Awakening Party (PKB), who previously said he would doubt his NU membership if he did not choose Amin (Anies-Muhaimin).

Khofifah reasoned why he reaffirmed his NU affiliation in front of hundreds of thousands of NU Muslimat cadres. According to him, this is the momentum to convince those who doubt his NU identity.

“So I think No need we ask someone’s NU. Because coincidentally it was busy and lively like that, So I need to get my testimony from the Muslim community. Do you think I doubt my NU-ness? It’s simple,” said Khofifah at GBK.

During the welcoming moment at the 78th NU Harlah Muslimat, Khofifah, who is also the Governor of East Java, asked the cadres about their NU affiliation. The cadres answered in unison that they did not doubt it. On this occasion, President Joko Widodo was also present.

Muhaimin or Cak Imin has stated that his words were not directed at Khofifah who officially expressed support for Candidate Candidate 02 Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka. However, Khofifah said that what developed in the timeline was that Cak Imin seemed to be questioning his NU identity.

“So I guess right? We can ask about someone’s NU-ness, that is something related to the ideology of religious life. So respect each other Just,” Khofifah said.

On this occasion, Khofifah emphasized that there was no suggestion for Muslim women to choose one of the candidate pairs. Because the organization does not have the right to vote and only its citizens have the right to vote.
