Mahfud Officially Resigns as Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, This is What He Said After Meeting the President

JAKARTA, BALIPOST.com – President Joko Widodo said that Mahfud MD is the Coordinating Minister for Politics, Law and Security (Menko Polhukam) who has served the longest in his cabinet during these two periods.

This was conveyed by the President when he received Mahfud Md who submitted his resignation letter as minister at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Thursday, as revealed by Mahfud MD after the meeting.

“(In meetings) We smile, we are happy, we talk about the past when we started working. “The President even said that Mr. Mahfud was the longest-serving Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs during Mr. Jokowi’s administration,” said Mahfud after the meeting with the President, quoted from the Antara News Agency.

Mahfud’s meeting with Jokowi took place behind closed doors. Mahfud delivered a statement accompanied by Minister of State Secretary Pratikno.

According to the President, Mahfud said, the previous Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, Tedjo Edhy Purdijatno, served for less than one year.

The next Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, Luhut Binsar Panjaitan, only served for a year and four months, then Wiranto served for around three years and six months, while he served for around four years and six months.​​​​​​​

Mahfud stated that he was resigning from his ministerial position due to political developments, which required him to focus on other tasks.

“Because of political developments, I have to focus on other tasks, so I ask you to stop,” said Mahfud.​​​​​​​

Mahfud submitted his resignation letter to the President directly Thursday evening at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta. According to him, the letter he sent contained three things.

First, Mahfud expressed his thanks to President Joko Widodo who appointed him as minister on October 23 2019 with great respect. So he also officially respectfully issued a letter requesting his resignation.

Second, regarding the substance of the contents of the resignation letter, and third, Mahfud apologized if there were things that were not implemented properly during his time as minister. (kmb/balipost)
