‘MEATBALL’ POLEMIC WAS ON THE AGENDA
The ‘meatball’ polemic between Murat Kurum and Ekrem İmamoğlu was on the agenda during the local election process.
Responding to the words of the People’s Alliance’s candidate for the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, Murat Kurum, saying ‘You go and manage the meatball shop’, İmamoğlu said:
“This rookie candidate, who did not study for his lessons, said, ‘You go and run the meatball shop.’ You know, I had a meatball shop when I was 21 years old. Do you know what the issue is now? I wish he was running a meatball shop at my age, 21, he would know what minced meat is and what meat is. He knew how to make market vendors, lettuce, salad, and how to wash dishes. Because he doesn’t know these things, because he hasn’t learned about life, because he doesn’t know life… Right now, we are actually teaching him the biggest life lesson of his life, all together. He is learning about life. Learning about retirees, learning about women, learning about mothers, learning about children. “Because he doesn’t know these things, he is in this situation today.”
Murat Kurum, the Istanbul candidate of the People’s Alliance, targeted İmamoğlu again; “You cannot even enter the doors of the ministries, you do not have such qualifications. They will only hire you from within the ministries as a meatball maker.” He used the following expressions:
In his last response, İmamoğlu said:
“He obviously has a problem with tradesmen and being a tradesman. I didn’t tell him ‘You can’t be a minister’, I said ‘You can’t be a meatball maker’. After March 31, he will remember the Istanbul election in every meatball he eats.”
