Meeting Democratic Leaders, Airlangga: We Must Build the Nation Together

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — The meeting between Golkar officials and the Chairman of the Democratic Party’s Board of Trustees Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and his staff resulted in a number of strategic points. Among them is about collaboration to build the nation at any time.

Collaboration must be strategic, based on national values ​​and ideology. Then have the same view and optimism that this nation will progress and excel.

Golkar Chairperson Airlangga Hartarto explained that the general election in 2024 must be based on working together. Even though different choices are a necessity, collaboration to actualize values ​​and build the nation must be done together.

“Our only difference is on February 14, when the people vote, vote, after that we will come back together to build the nation,” said Airlangga during a press conference after meeting with the Democratic Party on Saturday (29/4).

The Golkar Party continues to open friendships and dialogue with political parties. Including the Democrat party which positions itself as the opposition government.

As is known, the Golkar Party formed the United Indonesia Coalition (KIB) with the government coalition partner parties, namely the PAN and PPP parties. Meanwhile, the Democratic party is the Coalition for Change, which consists of the Nasdem Party and PKS.

“Because it is important for Indonesia that all these parties have a calm atmosphere, and we enter the political party not with tension but politics with joy,” he added.

The politics of happiness in political parties for Airlangga can only happen if communication between political parties, whether from the same or different coalitions, remains intense.

Airlangga believes that Indonesia is a big country where it is impossible for all problems to be solved by one political party.

“One political party cannot solve all the problems in this country. We have to work together,” he said.

The Golkar party and the Democrat party agreed that the election was not the winner takes it off (winner master all) as applicable in the United States.

Airlangga believes that the Pancasila democracy that applies in Indonesia is that whoever wins, the development will be carried out together.

“Just like in volleyball matches, for example. Once there is a champion, the formation of the national team is not the champion itself, all teams must be formed,” he added.

Airlangga emphasized that the 2024 election will have the feel of a political party full of happiness. Not what divides this nation into two with identity politics.

Identity Politics will leave old wounds that won’t heal easily in a short time.

“We are most worried about this nation being divided by identity politics, in the economy there is a term called scare, there are deep wounds, as well as politics, there is scare, deep wounds and it will not heal in the near future, he added.

Airlangga invites all elements of society to abandon identity politics, even though they have different views on the government.

According to Airlangga, every element, including political parties in government and outside, has the same focus, namely the challenge of people’s welfare and progress after the demographic bonus which is predicted to end in 2038.

“Leave identity politics, we don’t have to be in the same position but the most difficult thing is to be in a different position, we have the same goal for the progress and welfare of the Indonesian people after the demographic bonus,” he said.
