Muhammadiyah Reveals Reasons for Determining Eid Al-Fitr Early

JAKARTA, BALIPOST.com – The decision of the Eid al-Fitr holiday earlier than that of the government was revealed by the Muhammadiyah Central Executive (PP).
“This Muhammadiyah announcement is a normal thing to do, because we use the method of calculating the essence of the wujudul hilal,” said General Chairman of PP Muhammadiyah Haedar Nashir via video on the YouTube channel Muhammadiyah Channel in Jakarta, quoted from Antara News Agency, Sunday (7/4).
Haedar emphasized that the announcement delivered earlier by his party did not intend to preempt and leave out certain parties in determining Eid al-Fitr. “This is a common thing that happens every year, as various Islamic organizations issue calendars, either the Hijriah calendar which contains dates in the Hijriah which are connected to worship rituals, or perhaps also the Miladiyah (AD) calendar which is related to dates involving public activities. he said.
If there are similarities and differences in the dates determined, Haedar said, this should be able to make Muslims tolerant, tasamuh (mutual respect), and tanawu (mutual respect for differences in ways of carrying out worship). “So, this message will actually strengthen our intention to worship,” he said.
To resolve the problem of differences, said Haedar, Muhammadiyah continues to encourage all parties to realize a Single Global Hijri Calendar (KHGT).
According to him, it is hoped that the KHGT will not only apply to Indonesia, but also to Muslims throughout the world, so that these differences do not continue to repeat themselves. “One global calendar is like the Miladiyah (AD) calendar. “So, there are no longer any differences and there are no longer any activities that make us make mistakes or differ in our decisions,” said Haedar Nashir.
