Families who came to Edirnekapı from the morning hours of the second day of the holiday prayed for the martyrs at their graves.
Families who left flowers on the graves of their relatives and cleaned the cemeteries experienced emotional moments from time to time.
– “I’M GOING AWAY WITH THE TOMBSTONE”
Gülveşin İlhan, the mother of Gendarmerie Specialist Sergeant Özcan İlhan, who was martyred in the operation against PKK terrorists in Şırnak Bestler Dereler region in May last year, was among those who visited her son’s grave.
Stating that he comes to his son’s grave every day, İlhan said, “I celebrate the gravestone and leave. I curse them. They hurt many mothers. They were very young. There is nothing we can do. I hope we will meet them in heaven. Our only consolation is that their ranks are very high.” he said.
The grieving mother explained that it was their first holiday after her son was martyred.
Stating that his son had been married for 11 months when he died, İlhan said, “He had many dreams. His dreams were always left unfinished. There is not much to say. As long as there is a Turkish flag, there cannot be a second flag. I am from the East. This has nothing to do with the east and the west. My son was a soldier lover. There’s nothing can be done.” he said.
– “ALL OF THEM ARE OUR ELDER, BROTHERS”
Tanju Aytır said that she came to Edirnekapı Martyrs’ Cemetery with her family, even though she had no relatives.
Noting that he prayed for the martyrs, Aytır said, “They are all our elders, our brothers. When I come here, I feel our brothers who died for the flag. Our hearts are breaking, we are sad. While some families are celebrating, the hearts of those who come here are crying.” shared his opinion.
On the other hand, visits to cemeteries continue throughout the city during the holiday.
Citizens visiting Istiklal Cemetery in Esenyurt read the Quran and prayed at the graves of their relatives.
There was a traffic jam around the cemetery due to visits.
