321 Russian citizens were unable to fly to Moscow today from Phuket Island in Thailand – a tire burst on their plane during takeoff. The miraculously surviving travelers posted spectacular videos on social networks. They show how, during acceleration on the runway under the right half-wing, the aircraft appeared fire and smoke, after which the board braked sharply. None of the passengers were injured. They were taken from the plane to a hotel, and the flight was rescheduled for the next day.
It is known that we are talking about a charter flight of Azur Air. On the Boeing 767, 309 people were supposed to return from the resort to Moscow, another 12 Russians on board were the crew.
Because of what the tire of the wheel of the liner could explode and how dangerous it is, aif.ru commented aviation expert, editor-in-chief of Avia.ru Roman Gusarov.
“There could be several reasons for a tire to burst. Firstly, the tire itself could not withstand or some defect in the strip coating made it unusable. Or another possible option – a foreign object from the previous aircraft turned out to be on the runway. The root cause will be established by an investigation, which, after such cases, is carried out by the airport and the airline with the involvement of independent experts without fail. It could also be a problem with the brake system. The pads could rub and cause the chassis to overheat, which caused the wheel to burst, ”explained Roman Gusarov. Gusarov also does not exclude that one of the chassis could jam.
He noted that such cases occur, but not often. This is a rare malfunction. Rare, but potentially very dangerous.
“Such cases can be very dangerous. Especially during the landing phase. So, an aircraft with a blown tire – even on one wheel – may not have enough runway to complete the flight. In this case, the aircraft can roll out of it, which can become a threat to the life and health of passengers and crew.
According to the expert, passengers were lucky that all this happened and was discovered on takeoff, and not later – at the time of takeoff, the situation for detecting such a breakdown is as favorable as possible, since pilots can detect a problem and take the necessary actions, and speeds (it is assumed that the liner is in tire burst moment accelerated to 190 km / h) not so high that the board could not slow down.
