Poland on the podium of the final medal standings at the Nordic World Ski Championships 2023 in Planica

Today, March 5, the Nordic World Ski Championships 2023 in Planica (Slovenia) ended. The Polish national team in the medal classification of the championships took a high, fifth-sixth place together with the United States of America. The White-Reds, like the Americans, won two medals in the world championships (gold and bronze) – both in ski jumping, where Piotr Żyła won gold on the HS-102 normal hill and Dawid Kubacki won bronze on the HS-138 large hill.
The last competition closing the world championships in Planica – the men’s 50 km mass start run was won by Norway’s Paul Golberg ahead of his compatriot Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo and Sweden’s William Poromaa. Polish skier Dominik Bury took a distant 38th place, losing more than 10 minutes to the winner.

Norway won a certain victory in the medal standings with 27 medals (12 gold – 10 silver – 5 bronze). The second place in the ranking of the best national teams was taken by Sweden with 12 medals (4 gold – 3 silver – 5 bronze). Germany took third place. Note that Germany lost second place to Sweden only in terms of the number of gold medals (three gold, six silver and three bronze).
In the general medal classification of the championships, Poland took a better place than two years ago in Obersdorf, where it was ranked seventh with the same medal achievements as in Planica. An “eye” higher than in Planica, Biało-Czerwoni finished the 2019 World Cup in Seefeld, where they also won two medals, but gold and silver, which gave us fourth place in the “general”. And in the 2017 World Championships in Lahti, the same medal set as this year guaranteed us seventh place.
Poland was on the podium in the general classification of jumping at the championships. The Germans, who won the medal overall, did the best in ski jumping in the championships in Planica. One more and a gold medal from the White-Reds was won by the hosts of the championships – Slovenians, who took second place in the hierarchy. Our jumpers overtook such powers in this competition as Norway and Austria. The result could have been even better – we finished just outside the podium twice in Planica; Kamil Stoch was fourth on the large hill, and fourth place was also taken by the team composed of Kamil Stoch, Piotr Żyła, Aleksander Zniszczoł and Dawid Kubacki.
