Police: 47 People Became Victims of Medan-Jakarta Bus Accident in Bukittinggi

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BUKITTINGHI — The Bukittinggi City Police, West Sumatra, recorded that 47 passengers were victims of a single accident on a bus on the Medan-Jakarta route which rolled over on the Bukittinggi-Medan highway, Monday (15/4/2024).

Of the 47 passengers, one passenger reportedly died at the scene after the bus overturned and collapsed to the right of the road.

“The estimated number of victims as a result of this incident was 47 people and one of them died. All the victims were evacuated to several hospitals,” said Head of the Public Relations Section of the Bukittinggi Police, Police Inspector Satu Agustiar in Bukittinggi, Monday.

He said the ALS bus with plate number BK 7371 UD driven by Kevin Harahap overturned in Lambeh Jorong Nyiur Nagari, South Malalak Koto Village, Malalak District, Agam Regency. The bus crossed the Malalak route in accordance with the one-way system regulations implemented by the police during the Eid holiday.

“Temporary information is that the bus was traveling at high speed in a one-way situation. Right at a sharp bend to the left, the bus lost control and the driver swerved to the left, causing the bus to lose its balance until finally the bus fell to the right,” said Agustiar.

The number of victims evacuated to the Malalak Community Health Center was nine people with minor injuries. Seven victims with serious injuries were taken to RSUD dr. Achmad Mochtar Bukittinggi, and 31 other victims with details of one death, five serious injuries and 25 light injuries were evacuated to Padang Pariaman Regional Hospital.

“Officers went straight to the scene to evacuate the victims and process the crime scene as well as coordinating with the ALS Bukittinggi bus for handling passengers,” said Agustiar.

Meanwhile, Dr. Achmad Mochtar Bukittinggi said that five ALS bus accident victims had been treated.

“There are three women and two men currently being treated at RSAM, each woman aged 21 (years), a man aged 37, a man aged 31, a woman aged 16, and another woman aged 22 with injuries. “fractures and injuries to the head and legs,” said the Main Director of RSAM, Drg. Busril.
