Proposing Toll Rate Discounts of Up to 50 Percent, DPR Members: Lose Time with Malaysia for Free

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — The application of toll rate discounts of 20 to 35 percent on a number of main toll roads during the 2024 Eid homecoming period is considered insufficient. Member of Commission V DPR from the PKS faction, Sigit Sosiantomo, also proposed that the discount be increased to 50 percent.

“Earlier, we took the initiative to discount toll rates right The company, Mr. Minister, is the minister taking the initiative to discount up to 50 percent? Earlier they asked for it from the Toll Road Business Entity (BUJT). “Now, from Mr. PU himself, you can get a discount from the Minister of Public Works,” said Sigit during the DPR Commission V Homecoming Preparation Working Meeting with the Government, Tuesday (2/4/2024).

Sigit assesses that the state and BUJT have benefited from the implementation of toll rates at normal prices so far. Therefore, there is nothing wrong with discounts of up to 50 percent for this Eid homecoming.

Sigit also compared that the implementation of free toll rates by the Malaysian government for this Eid needs to be adopted by the Indonesian government.

“Even though under normal conditions Cikampek has 500 thousand passes. The toll road in the city is 500 thousand, Jagorawi 300-400 thousand vehicles per day, that is already a big profit for this country or BUJT. Therefore, the Minister of PUPR’s populist policy is really needed, it’s time to lose “and Malaysia, there are free toll roads during Eid,” he said.

For this reason, Sigit is again pushing for an additional 30 percent discount on toll rates from the government so that the total discount from BUJT and the state becomes 50 percent. “This is the end for all of us, the end of the DPR, the end of the government. Minister, please add an additional 30 percent discount from the government,” he said.

Previously, the Minister of Public Works and Public Housing, Basuki Hadimuljono, announced the application of toll rate discounts during the 2024 Eid homecoming and return periods on a number of roads. Basuki said that the application of toll discounts varies for each toll road section and the Toll Road Business Entity (BUJT) that regulates it.

First, a 20 percent discount for the Trans Java toll road, namely on the first Trans Java toll road at the Tangerang-Merak, Jakarta-Cikampek, Jakarta-Cikampek elevated (MBZ), Cikopo-Palimanan, Palimanan-Kanci, Kanci-Pejagan, Pejagan-Pemalang toll roads. Pemalang-Batang, Batang-Semarang, Semarang ABC and Jombang-Mojokerto.

Meanwhile, the Trans Sumatra Toll Road which applies a tariff of 20 percent is on the Indralaya-Prabumulih and Terbanggi Besar-Pematang Panggang-Kayu Agung toll roads.

“We mention this individually because each of them also has their own BUJT. It applies during the homecoming period on April 3 2024 from 05.00 WIB to April 5 at 05.00 WIB and the return period is April 17 2024 from 05.00 to April 19 at 05.00 WIB ,” said Basuki during the Homecoming Preparation Working Meeting with Commission V DPR RI, Tuesday (2/4/2024).

Furthermore, Basuki stated that the toll discount from BUJT for the Krian-Legundi-Bunder toll road was 14 to 35 percent with conditions. For non-class 1 vehicles with the following details: classes III and III at 14 percent and classes IV and V at 35 percent, for 17 days from April 3 to April 19 2024.

“This toll rate discount applies to non-cash transactions with sufficient electronic card balance. Therefore, we ask the public to ensure that their electronic card balance is sufficient during the trip,” he said.
