Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Iranian counterpart Ebrahim Raisi discussed the situation in the Middle East after Israel’s strike on the territory of the Iranian embassy in Syrian Damascus and Tehran’s retaliatory measures. The Kremlin press service reported this on Tuesday, April 16.
The Russian leader expressed hope that all parties to the conflict will show restraint and not allow the situation to worsen.
On April 13, Iran fired dozens of unmanned aerial vehicles and missiles towards Israel in response to Tel Aviv’s attack on the Iranian embassy located in Damascus, Syria, which killed several generals and officers of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. According to ABC News, on April 15, Israeli authorities may decide on a specific type of response to Iran, despite calls from the world community, including the United States, to ignore the actions of the Iranian side.
On April 15, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov indicated that Russia is extremely concerned about the escalation of tensions in the Middle East and advocates that all disagreements between states be resolved through political and diplomatic methods. At the same time, Secretary of the Russian Security Council Nikolai Patrushev also called on all parties to the conflict in the Middle East to show restraint.
