PWNU Lampung: NU is Neutral in the 2024 Election

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDARLAMPUNG — The Lampung Regional Management of Nahdlatul Ulama (PWNU) emphasized that his party will listen to and obey or “Sami’na wa Atho’na” with the decision of the Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) Executive Board regarding the upcoming 2024 elections.

“PBNU prohibits the use of NU emblems or symbols for personal gain in order to maintain NU’s neutrality. We (PWNU Lampung) are perpendicular to PBNU’s policy,” said Head of the Tanfidziyah Regional Management of Nahdlatul Ulama (PWNU) Lampung Puji Raharjo, in Bandarlampung, Sunday.

In fact, he said, PWNU Lampung had instructed the Nahdlatul Ulama Branch Management (PCNU) in districts and cities to listen to and obey PBNU’s decision.

“PWNU Lampung’s instructions to PCNU are in a straight line with PBNU, sami’na wa atho’na, that NU stands above all,” he said.

In this way, continued Puji, nahdliyin can channel their political aspirations in any party by carrying out NU’s great mission based on the basic principles of nation and state, namely Pancasila, Bhinneka Tunggal Ika, NKRI, and the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia.

“Nahdlatul Ulama politics is national politics. The safety of the nation and the future of the nation is the most important thing above all, so we hope that the elected leader will truly be able to take Indonesia in a better direction by upholding the values ​​of togetherness and unity,” ” he said.

Puji reiterated that NU as a religious social organization (ormas) does not engage in practical politics.

“Political contestation is contestation between political parties, while NU is a religious mass organization. This is what we must understand together. As a religious organization, NU focuses more on developing people and empowering society rather than being directly involved in the world of politics,” he said.

NU’s existence is not only as a religious mass organization, but also as a social forum that influences various aspects of people’s lives, from education, social, to culture.

However, Puji sees that the nahdliyin’s voice is always the favorite in the once-five-yearly political agenda, considering the very significant number of nahdliyin in Indonesia.

“So NU is neutral like ASN in the 2024 elections. Therefore NU does not have an agenda to nominate or support certain candidates in the general elections,” he said.
