Kyiv needs to consider the option of a compromise with Moscow in order to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. RIA Novosti reports this with reference to Verkhovna Rada deputy Yevgeny Shevchenko.
The parliamentarian believes that the Ukrainian side should conduct intelligence political consultations in order to understand what kind of compromise Russia can make.
“Or there is no compromise at all. This is very important because you yourself spoke about the point of success. At the point of success we need to negotiate, because then it goes downhill,” Shevchenko said.
According to the deputy, Ukraine should hold consultations with the Russian Federation as soon as possible. If this does not happen, then Kyiv’s position may be threatened if former American leader Donald Trump comes to power in the United States. The Ukrainian side does not know what to expect from him, Shevchenko noted.
“And then it will be too late to return to the point where we are now,” the parliamentarian concluded.
Russian authorities have repeatedly stated their readiness for negotiations with Kiev. However, in Ukraine they were prohibited from holding them with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the legislative level. In October, the Russian leader said that if the Ukrainian authorities want to start a negotiation process to resolve the conflict, then theatrical gestures are not needed for this. To start a dialogue, the Kyiv authorities must cancel the decree prohibiting negotiations with Russia, Putin is sure.
