Meerut (Uttam Hindu News): Former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh, known as the Messiah of farmers, was given Bharat Ratna on Saturday. A senior leader associated with RLD said that Chaudhary Charan Singh always fought in the interest of farmers. As Prime Minister from July 1979 to January 1980, he made many policies for the upliftment and development of farmers. Interested in reading and writing. Chaudhary wrote books and booklets. From the writing of books like ‘Abolition of Landlordism’, ‘Poverty of India and its Solution’, ‘Land for Farmers, ‘Prevention of Deviation of Holdings Below a Certain Minimum’, ‘Co-operative Farming X-Rad’ Worked to give direction to the country.

Former Prime Minister Charan Singh was born in a farmer family. He made Baghpat his workplace and reached the post of Prime Minister. Chaudhary Charan Singh’s political journey from being a farmer leader from Western UP to becoming the Prime Minister of the country has been very interesting. He held the post of Prime Minister from July 28, 1979 to January 14, 1980.

Chaudhary Charan Singh ji started contesting elections from Congress and won the assembly in 1952, 1962 and 1967. Govind was Parliamentary Secretary in the government of Ballabh Pant. He also served in many ministries like Revenue, Law, Information, Health and was also a minister in the governments of Sampurnanand and Chandrabhanu Gupta.

In 1967, Charan Singh left the Congress Party and formed his own party named Bharatiya Kranti Dal. Ram Manohar Lohia had a hand on him. Congress lost for the first time in UP and Chaudhary Charan Singh became the Chief Minister. Chaudhary Charan Singh became Chief Minister in 1967 and 1970.

Chaudhary Charan Singh took a major decision during his tenure as Chief Minister and removed the sales tax on fertilizers. An attempt was made to distribute the land obtained through sealing among the farmers, but it was not successful in Uttar Pradesh.

He was born on 23 December 1902 in Noorpur village of Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh. His education was completed from Government High School and University, Meerut. Chaudhary Charan Singh died on 29 May 1987 in Delhi.
