Abuse of energy drinks can lead to stroke, heart attack, arrhythmia or other diseases. Surgeon Alexander Umnov stated this in a conversation with NEWS.ru.
According to the expert, energy drinks quickly become addictive and also provoke irreparable changes in the body. So, with excessive consumption of the drink, problems with the heart and gastrointestinal tract can develop, which in severe cases can cause death.
“With daily use of energy drinks, addiction can develop within three to six months, which can transform into pathological dependence. The consequences of uncontrolled use are depressing,” he warned.
The doctor explained that energy drinks contain large doses of substances that stimulate the cardiovascular and nervous systems, including caffeine and taurine. According to him, such drinks will not give a person vigor, but, on the contrary, will only worsen his health.
“Within a couple of hours after taking the energy drink, fatigue will return. The boost of energy is a myth. Energy drinks can definitely harm the health of pregnant women, nursing mothers, and elderly people over 70 years of age,” he added.
Earlier it was reported that a resident of Balashikha near Moscow almost died due to abuse of energy drinks – he drank more than a thousand cans in a year. The man was in intensive care for two weeks, and the probability of his death was 70%.
