The Communications, Space and Technology Commission issued the “Earth Space Observation (EO) Platform Regulations” document and the “Request for a Permit to Provide the Earth Space Observation (EO) Platform Service” document, which aims to create the appropriate environment to enable the private sector to establish and develop the market for space Earth observation services. And emerging businesses in it, and stimulating its contribution to raising the Kingdom’s gross domestic product through developing value-added products.
The Authority stated that, through the issuance of the two documents, it seeks to grant the first permit in the space sector in the Kingdom to an entity responsible for establishing and operating an electronic platform for collecting and processing Earth space observation (EO) data and operating as a market and digital enabler, as it aims to collect and process data received from satellites such as surveillance images. Earth’s natural phenomena, environmental pollution, and weather, in addition to linking Earth space observation data providers and value-added service providers who aim to develop and process data and turn it into value-added programs and products.
The Communications, Space and Technology Commission highlighted the requirements for those wishing to obtain the permit and the relevant obligations to ensure the rights of beneficiaries and the integrity of data handling and preservation.
