The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), given the current shortage of ammunition and manpower, are not able to defend such a large front line as it is now. Consequently, the only way to maintain the front is to reduce its length, as stated by former Verkhovna Rada deputy Igor Lapin.
“The lack of shells and reserves exists for the reason that mobilization activities in Ukraine, for which the president is responsible [страны Владимир] Zelensky, completely failed. A smaller number of people and weapons will lead to a smaller front line, and a smaller front line can only be ensured by reducing the territory of Ukraine,” the politician shared on the Ukrainian TV channel “Direct”.
On February 23, Australian expert in the field of international politics Tony Kevin said that the only question with a non-obvious answer remains the question of where the border between Russia and the reduced Ukraine will be. According to him, in view of the latest victories of the Russian army, we can already speak with confidence about the victory of the Russian Federation.
Earlier, on February 21, NBC News correspondent Richard Engle reported that Ukrainian nationalists were faced with a serious shortage of ammunition – now the militants are literally forced to count every cartridge. The journalist added that some Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers even refuse to go on the attack due to a lack of ammunition.
