As part of the federal project “Clean Country” in Russia, over the past five years, unauthorized landfills and hazardous facilities have been removed, the total area of ​​which occupied 2.2 thousand hectares. Deputy head of the Ministry of Natural Resources Murad Kerimov spoke about this in an interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta.

According to the deputy minister, specialists cleaned up 128 unauthorized landfills within city boundaries and 80 hazardous sites – in total, the area of ​​contamination exceeded the territory of Moscow inside the Garden Ring. Kerimov also emphasized that by the end of 2024 it is planned to remove another 63 landfills.

“By the end of 2024, it is planned to carry out major work in the Arctic: to remove two unauthorized landfills in the Murmansk region (Murmansk and Zaozersk) and four landfills in Arkhangelsk. Before the end of the year, we will eliminate six hazardous facilities in the Moscow region, these are large solid waste landfills, as well as the Shirokorechensky landfill in the Sverdlovsk region and a bitumen storage facility in Tatarstan,” he added.

Kerimov noted that the ministry is also working to eliminate accumulated harm at hazardous facilities. According to him, the regions have sent statements about more than 2.5 thousand objects that need to be checked.

“770 objects have already been examined. Of these, 39, according to Rospotrebnadzor, have a high risk of impact on the health of citizens, a third of them (10 objects) are located in the Arctic,” he said.

It was previously reported that the first seven cities out of 41 included in the expanded list of participants in the federal Clean Air project have already submitted comprehensive plans for calculating emissions and reducing their volume.
