REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA –– Presidential candidate number 3 Ganjar Pranowo attended a meeting entitled National Gathering and Consultation with Kiai Kampung Se-Malang Raya at the Babussalam Islamic Boarding School (Ponpes) in Banjarejo Village, Pagelaran District, Malang Regency, East Java, Tuesday evening.
Ganjar’s arrival was welcomed directly by the caretaker of the Babussalam Islamic Boarding School, KH Thoriq bin Ziyad.
He was also given a red turban by KH Thoriq or familiarly known as Gus Thoriq.
“Today we are talking about how to be a nation and a state, he really cares about national issues. So it is important for me that figures like him can be sources to provide input,” said Ganjar in a written statement received by Antara in Jakarta, Tuesday.
Ganjar said that Gus Thoriq is a figure who has clear thinking and cool advice.
The white-haired presidential candidate added that dialogue with religious figures and ulama is very important to get suggestions and advice amidst the hustle and bustle of political contestation.
“His (Gus Thoriq) thoughts are very clear, and not many people even know that the initial discussion on Santri Day was from his place,” said Ganjar.
Gus Thoriq is the figure who proposed through the Political Contract the idea of 1 Muharram, which coincides with the Islamic New Year, becoming National Santri Day to President Jokowi when he visited the Babussalam Islamic Boarding School in 2014.
The Indonesian General Election Commission (KPU) has named three participants in the 2024 presidential election, namely the pair Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar serial number 1, Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka serial number 2, and Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud Md serial number 3.
The campaign period runs from 28 November 2023 to 10 February 2024. After the campaign period, there is a quiet period on 11-13 February 2024. Then, the voting schedule for the 2024 General Election will take place simultaneously on 14 February 2024.
