World Scientists Call Muhammadiyah the Biggest Islamic Organization in Indonesia and the World, Here’s the Evidence

KURUSETRA — Greetings Sedulur… PP Muhammadiyah has been known as the second largest Islamic organization in Indonesia. Its size is based on old standards and theories regarding mass numbers. In fact, measurements based on quantity (amount of mass) are considered to be irrelevant because experts are starting to measure the status of the ‘largest organization’ based on quality.
Chairman of PP Muhammadiyah, Prof. Haedar Nashir said several social scientists had defined new categories. As a result, Muhammadiyah is called the largest modern Islamic organization in Indonesia, even in the world.
“Perhaps from the mass aspect it is not as big as the others, but from the aspect of progress, Muhammadiyah is often referred to as the largest modern, reformist and progressive Islamic organization in Indonesia and in the world,” said Prof. Haedar in the celebration of the 31st anniversary of the Jakarta Islamic Hospital Sukapura , Wednesday, May 4 2023, as quoted from the official Muhammadiyah website.

Prof. Haedar believes that the proof that Muhammadiyah is the largest modern Islamic organization in Indonesia and the world is during the Covid-19 pandemic. According to Prof Haedar, what is called a “bigger” does not always have to be quantity, but also quality.
“So the experts corrected their theories that in conclusion, it was. The Islamic world does not know Islamic organizations like us,” he explained.

With this distinction, Haedar hopes that every Muhammadiyah Charity (AUM) organ, including the Jakarta Islamic Hospital (RSIJ) Sukapura, continues to improve to emphasize its characteristics as a modern organization, one of which is through strengthening the system. As a growing hospital with community service functions, AUM Muhammadiyah health services according to Haedar grew from two doors, namely 1) the institution whose embryo started in 1923, even attracted dr. Soetomo, and 2) public health.
“So for RSIJ Sukapura, this is a strength, not a burden in modern organizational development, there is something called organizational identity. Well, one of the organizational identities has something distinct from the others. And that can be a strength, “he said.

As a tasyakur bi ni’mah, efforts to strengthen modern identity, said Haedar, are needed for a hospital owned by a Persyarikatan which is mature, 31 years old. “So at the age of 31, our tasyakur bi ni’mah, let’s be grateful for tasyaruf ani syukri (distribute gratitude) by capitalizing on what we already have as well as developing what we don’t have yet and we azzam it and become our goal. ,” he said.
“Also building a civilization that is rahmatan lil alamin, moving forward with blessings, not advancing with slander. Because many developed countries have brought disasters, wars and so on,” said Prof Haedar.
