The leadership of the Council of Europe did not respond to the terrorist attack in Crocus City Hall. This fact was commented on in an interview with RIA Novosti by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
According to her, the lack of response became another shameful page in the history of the organization. This behavior calls into question the impartiality of the legal and expert mechanism of the Council of Europe.
“Such a line from Strasbourg once again confirms the deep degradation of today’s Council of Europe, mired in political hypocrisy and double standards,” Zakharova noted.
She added that the organization is trying to become the “conscience of Europe” and the main defender of human rights in the region. However, due to such situations, all attempts are futile.
Zakharova emphasized that the Russian Federation does not require any cooperation with this structure. All interactions were interrupted at the request of Moscow.
“However, the lack of a principled response to the barbaric attack on civilians raises reasonable questions about the ability of the leadership of the Council of Europe,” the diplomat considered.
The Council of Europe must help ensure international stability and act against terrorism. Now there is no need to talk about the impartiality of the body.
Earlier, Zakharova said that the Russian Federation would take a number of political steps based on the results of the investigation into the terrorist attack at Crocus City Hall.
