19 Thousand Tourists Storm Surabaya Zoo on the Third Day of Eid

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SURABAYA — As many as 19 thousand tourists have visited the Surabaya Zoo (KBS) tourism destination during H+3 of Idul Fitri 1445 Hijriyah or Eid 2024, Sunday (14/4/2024).

“Based on the latest information, the total number of KBS visitors today reached 19 thousand people,” said Head of the Public Relations Section of KBS Lintang Ratri Sunarwidhi.

Lintang stated that tourists who spend the Eid al-Fitr holiday are still dominated by residents of the city of Surabaya. He estimates that the number of tourists from the local area will reach 13,300 people or 70 percent of the total number of visitors.

“We saw that most of the parked vehicles had L number plates,” he said.

Tourists, he said, mostly come to tourist locations managed by the Regional Animal Park Company (PDTS), from 10.00 to 13.00 WIB. Meanwhile, the area in KBS that attracts tourists is the primate zone. Then the elephant, camel, giraffe and tiger enclosures.

“At that time there were around 11 thousand tourists. The peak prediction for visits is today,” he said.

PDTS as the manager of KBS is said to have implemented various security measures to prevent crowds of visitors and traffic jams, by coordinating with police officers, the Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP), and the local Transportation Service (Dishub).

“From an internal schedule, we changed the schedule from three to two, but 15 officers are alerted per shift,” he said.

Meanwhile, one of the tourists from Padang City, West Sumatra named Anisa Srihana said she deliberately came to KBS to enjoy the Eid holiday. “I’m not going home, I’m here for a walk with my family because I know there are lots of good tourist attractions in Surabaya,” he said.

Anisa stated that this was not the first time she had visited. “I used to but when I was little and now I’m here again,” he said.

Apart from Anisa, there is also a tourist from Surabaya City named Siti Kurnia Indrayanti who said she visits KBS almost every two weeks. This is because ticket prices are relatively affordable.

“Tickets are IDR 15 thousand per person, apart from the beautiful and clean environment, it is comfortable,” he said.

Apart from that, the animals in the KBS collection present a special attraction to his eyes, especially elephants. “I often come here to see elephants, directly in front of their cages,” he said.
