An ophthalmologist from one of Mariupol’s medical institutions was sentenced to life imprisonment in absentia. She was given the most severe sentence for the fact that in March 2022 she pointed out to the occupiers seven seriously wounded soldiers of the Ukrainian Armed Forces who were hospitalized in the hospital where the traitor worked.

It happened during the fighting for the city, when the invaders seized the hospital, and a group of invaders led by the Russian “Ossetyn” searched among the patients of the medical facility of the soldiers of the Defense Forces.

They could not find the soldiers, because the hospital workers destroyed their uniforms, ammunition and documents in advance, and also registered the fighters as civilian residents of the city, injured as a result of hostilities. So the medical staff tried to save the soldiers from massacre.

But Chekhova, who went around the hospital wards with the invaders, pointed out to the invaders the beds where the wounded Ukrainian soldiers were lying.

“After that, the rioters imprisoned the seriously wounded Ukrainian defenders and took them to a Russian torture chamber, where they were brutally tortured,” the SBU said.

Moreover, according to the investigation, the traitor exposed one of her colleagues, a doctor who tried to save wounded Ukrainian soldiers, to the occupiers. After that, the invaders took the man’s documents and car and promised him a “slow death.”

However, the doctor was able to avoid the treasury: he escaped from the hospital building at the moment when the “guards” who were monitoring the perimeter of the hospital were being changed.

“As the investigation established, for cooperating with the occupiers, their accomplice received an “incentive” in the form of “appointment to the position of head of the ophthalmology department” of the captured hospital. Based on the collected evidence, the court found Chekhova guilty under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (treason, committed under martial law) and sentenced her to life imprisonment in absentia,” the Security Service noted.
