ALDI allows Canarian households to save up to 225 euros per year on their purchases

As a company that creates the discount, ALDI’s goal is simple: offer quality products at the lowest possible price. Since arriving in the Canary Islands, the supermarket chain has worked to bring its offer closer to the families of the Archipelago and ensure ways of saving on regular purchases. So much so, that Canarian customers who bought at ALDI last year could having saved up to 225 euros per year compared to other supermarketsaccording to data from the consulting firm Kantar Worldpanel.

On average, Canarian families spend around 2,343 euros annually on food and drugs, excluding fresh products. However, when considering the average price shoppers pay at ALDI, This expense could be reduced to about 2,121 euros if they make all their purchases in the chainwhich highlights the effort carried out by the company to contain prices.

At the national level, thanks to these measures, ALDI closed the year 2023 with its fixed prices being 12% lower than the Spanish market average, according to the consulting firm Kantar Worldpanel. This translates into savings of up to 139.84 euros for customers who made their weekly purchases at ALDI during the second half of 2023compared to the average market basket.

A model based on its own brand, proximity and quality

ALDI puts the focus on the most essential and basic products in the basket, which are the ones that have the greatest impact on families’ economies. For this reason, it offers in all its stores in the Canary Islands an assortment with 86% own brand, which facilitates consumer decision making. In addition, the company maintains long-term and trusting relationships with its 55 suppliers in the Canary Islands.

ALDI arrived in the Archipelago in July 2022 and in this time it has managed to become a trusted purchasing option for the majority of Canary Islanders. In fact, they are already more than 7 out of 10 households (78%) those who claim to take ALDI into account in their regular purchases and more than 35% of the Canary Islands have already purchased in one of their supermarkets on the Islands. In the Archipelago, ALDI has a penetration of 35.1% (about 4 out of every 10 consumers).

ALDI offers in the Canary Islands a basket of 60 products at the lowest price

To reinforce its usual low prices, ALDI also offers in all its supermarkets in the Canary Islands a basket of 60 own brand basic products with the lowest possible prices. This assortment includes drinks, sausages and cheeses, dairy products, pantry, frozen or breakfast products, among other items. Along with these discounts, the supermarket chain also incorporates Additional offers of up to 30% on 30 other items.

Furthermore, within its usual promotions, ALDI has between 30 and 40 weekly offers that include fresh products – such as cfresh meat and fish, fruit, vegetables– and other own brand products. To avoid food waste, the company also maintains the 30% discount on products with a near expiration date or preferential consumption and offers special offers linked to new supermarket openings during the first three months of inauguration.

ALDI will continue to grow in the Archipelago this year with 6 new openings

In recent years, ALDI has carried out an ambitious expansion plan that has led it to inaugurate 12 supermarkets throughout the Archipelago. Today, the supermarket chain is present on the islands of Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura and has nearly 16,200 m2 of sales room and a staff of more than 230 collaborators. Last year, ALDI landed on the island of Lanzarote, with new stores in Reef and Saint Barthélemyand opened another establishment in The Gran Canarian palms.

ALDI’s logistics platform in Agüimes (Gran Canaria) is the logistics engine behind all its stores in the Canary Islands. He Canary Islands logistics center has been recognized with the BREEAM sustainability and energy efficiency certificate, with a rating of “excellent”highlighting ALDI’s commitment to responsible and environmentally friendly building practices.

Looking ahead to 2024, ALDI will continue to expand its presence in the Archipelago, with the opening of 6 new storesincluding the opening of your first store in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. This store will be located in the former Victoria tobacco factory and cinemasan emblematic building of the city’s historical heritage that has been closed for approximately 50 years.

These inaugurations are part of its ambitious national expansion plan, with which plans to open nearly 50 new establishments in Spain. This commitment reflects ALDI’s determination to offer its services and products to a greater number of consumers in the Canary Islands and throughout Spain.
