Russian President Vladimir Putin On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Russian electoral system, he presented state awards to members of the Central Election Commission, including those who managed to ensure the holding of elections in new Russian regions in the conditions of the Northern Military District. The main task during the elections there was to ensure the safety of people. The CEC adequately responded to the challenge posed by the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Ukrainian special services, which sought to disrupt the elections, the president noted.

Formally, the 30th anniversary of the Russian electoral system was still September 24. Today, the president awarded state awards to those who worked, literally and figuratively, on the hottest front of the elections – in the new regions of Russia, where the Northern Military District is taking place. There, elections were sometimes held right under fire. This, however, did not at all scare away the Donetsk or Cossacks, who thus wanted to show the Ukrainian leadership that they were no longer on the same path.

“In the DPR and LPR, people lined up to vote. Shelling. They left, someone went down to the basements. The shelling ended and we immediately went out to the polling stations again. The same line, people stand and vote. “It’s amazing,” the president marveled. – And the people are amazing. There are people who are strong in soul, heart and character; they set an example of what kind of core everyone should have in order to achieve results.”

The President especially thanked members of election commissions at all levels in the new regions, who also risked their lives, but ensured that the elections were held at the highest level.

“It’s difficult for everyone who works in the election commissions of the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions. I just want to thank you on behalf of myself, on behalf of the country, and thank you for your courage and loyalty to Russia!” – Vladimir Putin noted.

How did the Ukrainian authorities try to disrupt the elections?

One of the awardees, Tatyana Moskovchuk, told us what difficulties CEC members had to face so that residents of new regions could vote.

“You know, on voting days, all members of the election commission risked their lives, received threats from neo-fascists, but no one, no one refused to work,” she said.

Voters in the DPR are also unique. Despite the shelling, they went to the elections as if it were a holiday. “They wanted to take part in this historical event because they understood that these elections establish the legislative power in the republic. They greeted us with a smile in their homes, their families went to the plots,” said Moskovchuk.

In this sense, the main task of the CEC is to ensure that the elections are held safely. The task is very important, given that next year the country will hold presidential elections in Russia. Various options are currently being explored, including taking into account the best Moscow experience. For example, online elections, Vysotsky noted.

“The difficulty here is that so far our population is not registered en masse in the State Services system. Therefore, we cannot fully implement this idea yet. But we, of course, keep this in mind and are working in this direction,” he told aif.ru.
